2018 International Biometric Conference
I am pleased to welcome you to the IBS-hosted website for the XXIXth International Biometric Conference (IBC2018) to be held July 8–13, 2018 at the Barcelona International Conference Centre, Barcelona, Spain. Here you will find regularly updated information on all aspects of the conference – the scientific and social programmes, registration and travel details, and much more. Conference registration is now open, and I encourage you all to keep up-to-date on developments.

The meeting is being hosted by the Spanish Region of the International Biometric Society (REsp). The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), led by Pere Puig and Lupe Gómez, is currently finalizing plans for the social programme, including a Monday welcome reception after the first full day of sessions (long-time IBC participants, please note the change!), an exciting list of Wednesday tours and excursions, and a Thursday Gala Dinner.
We received a record number of Invited Session proposals, and 18 of these were selected by the International Programme Committee (IPC) led by chair Charmaine Dean (WNAR). These are already listed on the web, and the detailed schedule will follow soon. These invited sessions will be augmented by several special sessions including Biometrics and JABES showcases, a Young Statisticians Showcase, invited sessions from the ISI and from the Host Region, and a Statistics in Practice session.
We also received a record number of Short Course proposals and the Education Committee, under Pascale Tubert-Bitter (FR), selected five of these to be presented on the Sunday before the main meeting. These short courses are also now detailed on the web, and we would love to have sufficient registrants so that all five can be offered. We encourage everyone to take a look, and see if they would like to add a Short Course to their registration.
Contributed paper and poster submission are now being reviewed. We are pleased by the large number of submissions! These sessions are one of the most important aspects of our conference. They provide an opportunity for everyone to present their work and demonstrate the exciting developments and applications of biometry throughout the world. The submissions are being handled through the abstract submission website, managed by staff at the IBS International Business Office under our Executive Director, Peter Doherty.
This promises to be yet another great IBC, at an outstanding European location. I do hope that many of you will be able to make the trip and join us. Be sure to bookmark this webpage, and visit frequently to keep up-to-date on IBC2018 developments.
